Emotional Healing: Tuning Into Your Chakras for Self-Care
Ever felt a knot in your stomach when you're anxious or a heaviness in your chest when you're feeling down? You're not imagining it—those sensations are a physical manifestation of your emotions. Whether through Eastern or Western healing practices, it's widely understood that emotions live in our bodies, and we can work through them by tuning into our Chakras. By paying attention to these emotional signals, we can tap into deeper self-care and emotional balance.
The Mind-Body Connection:
That tightness in your chest or that lump in your throat? That's your mind communicating with your body. When we experience emotions, we often feel them physically. Think about it: Anger might show up in your liver, sadness in your heart, and fear in your kidneys. Our emotions have a direct link to the physical state of our bodies. So, when we address those physical sensations, we're also acknowledging our emotional health.
Hold up, I know what you're thinking—“Isn’t this where she gets all woo-woo?” But trust me, chakras are a really helpful and tangible way to understand how our emotions and bodies are intertwined. I like to think of chakras as a mountain stream. When the stream is in balance, it flows smoothly, navigating around rocks and obstacles with ease. But if a big boulder gets in the way, the flow gets blocked. If we remove that boulder, the stream returns to its natural flow, often stronger than before. Our chakras work the same way—they’re energy centers in our body that allow energy to flow. When they’re balanced, we feel good—physically, mentally, and emotionally. But when life throws us a curveball —emotional pain, trauma, or stress—energy can get blocked, causing discomfort or even illness. The goal is to bring awareness to those energy centers, identifying where we feel “stuck” and where we can encourage more flow.
In Western medicine, there's often a disconnect between mind and body, but by tuning into our Chakras, we can bridge that gap and focus on the root causes of any physical pain or emotional blockages.
The 7 Chakras:
-
Root Chakra (Muladhara): Safety, security, and fear - located at the base of the spine
-
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Creativity, pleasure, and guilt - located below the navel
-
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Confidence, power, and shame - upper abdomen, belly button area
-
Heart Chakra (Anahata): Love, compassion, and grief - located at the heart
-
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Communication, expression, and truth - located at the throat
-
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Intuition, perception, and fear - located at the forehead, between the eyebrows
-
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Spiritual connection and disconnection - located at the top of the head
How to Tune In:
A great way to tune into your body’s sensations is through meditation or mindfulness. We’re often so busy or distracted that we don’t give much attention to those subtle emotional signals. But by slowing down and being present—whether it’s through breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga—we can bring awareness to where energy might be stuck or where it’s flowing freely.
Have you ever tried a hip-opening yoga pose and suddenly felt a wave of emotion? That’s because we store emotions in different parts of our body. Or maybe you notice a constant clenching in your jaw—by simply relaxing your shoulders, neck, and jaw, you’re allowing energy to flow more freely, letting go of that tension. If you often feel closed off or sad, a heart-opening yoga pose might help you release that emotional block and feel more balanced.
Journaling Your Feelings:
Journaling is a great tool for working through emotions. When you write down your thoughts and feelings, it helps clear them out of your mind and brings greater awareness. Sometimes just putting words to your emotions can help you understand them better and release them.
Okay, bear with me—this is where some people might glaze over, but hear me out! Crystals are said to have frequencies that can align with your chakras, helping to balance your energy. If this feels too "out there" for you, no worries—crystals can simply serve as a tactile reminder to focus on specific energy centers. For example, if you’re struggling with communication, placing a Lapis Lazuli crystal on your throat chakra while meditating can help you tune into that area. I find this especially helpful for kids—they can use crystals as a physical representation to understand their feelings.
If you’re looking to explore chakra healing from home, I created the Simpatico Chakra Healing Gift Set—a tool you can use in your own space to help you process and release emotions. I totally get that visiting an energy healer or seeing a therapist isn’t always an option, (I'm a mama and stepmama to 4 kids.. Believe me, I get it.. ) but this set gives you a chance to take charge of your healing journey from home. The sets include chakra cards, crystals, a journal, gua sha, body and body oil, dry brush, and some calming items like sage, palo santo, and a meditation candle. You can use these items in any order that feels right for you, whether you want to work through the chakras one by one or use the cards like oracle cards for guidance.
No Rules, Just What Feels Right:
There’s no right or wrong way to use these tools. It’s all about finding what works for you and making your self-care routine feel nourishing and supportive, whether thats in the morning, a night time ritual or a few minutes in your car at a stop light - find a few minutes of your day that work for you.
